Help Your Local Candidates Qualify For Clean Election Financing
Clean elections level the playing field so wealthy or lobbyist funded candidates cannot buy an election. Maine has been a pioneer in this effort. Ruth-Marie Spellman (candidate for House District 21), Representative Ben Pratt (House District 20) and Deborah Deane (candidate for Senate District 31) are trying to qualify as clean election candidates. To do so, candidates must raise a certain number of $5 contributions to show they have community support from individual voters who are registered in their district. You have to be from their district for your contribution to count. This election year citizens can contribute their $5.00 online. Please visit the Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices web site to learn more about Clean Election financing and make a contribution. The deadline is April 15th. Thank you!
| If you don't live in House District 20, House District 21, or Senate District 31 you can make still make a donation and help your own local Democratic candidates. |

Obama Edges Clinton by 1 Vote in the Brewer Caucus!
| Governor Baldacci speaks to caucus goers at the Brewer Auditorium. |
It was the biggest turnout (190 voting) for a Democratic Caucus in recent memory. Illinois Senator Barack Obama edged New York Senator Hillary Clinton by one vote (94-93) with 3 voters deciding to stay uncommitted. Brewer's 26 delegates were evenly divided 13-13 for Obama and Clinton.
Thank you to the Brewer Democrats who attended the caucus. We sincerely appreciate your time and patience. The turnout was much bigger than anyone ever anticipated. Let's hold on to that excitement and spirit through to the November Elections.
